News and Announcements

North Bellmore, NY – The Rebels beat the 10U Rebels last Friday night in an exhibition game, 2-1, at Saw Mill. As indicated by the score, it was a nip-and-tuck ball game that was well-played on both sides.

The 9U Rebels returned to their formula of strong pitching, good defense, just enough hitting, and heads-up baserunning to take a 2-0 lead into the 6th inning.

The 10U Rebels, who also featured fine pitching and defense, made it very interesting in their half of the sixth when they cut the lead to 2-1 and got the tying run aboard, but fell just a little short.

After the game’s conclusion, both Rebels teams and their families enjoyed a BBQ sponsored by the 9U Rebels parents with desserts furnished by the 10U Rebels parents. Once again, kudos and thanks to Chris and Danny who drove the train on the BBQ proceedings and manned the grills to great success. All the players co-mingled throughout the evening and concluded with a massive game of manhunt. It was a beautiful summer night and a good time was had by all.

Our Coaches

Posted by Sam Acri at Aug 15, 2009 5:54AM PDT ( 5 Comments )

Not that I would admit to make any mistakes, :)

But there is one thing that I keep forgetting to do.

During many of my after game speeches I often thank the players and parents for all there hard work, unfortunately I keep forgetting the group of guys that have come together to make this all possible, the coaches.

I know on paper I am listed as the manager, but that is only because someone has to take that position, Bob, Ray, Al & Mike are a very special group who I could not do any of this without. Each one has provided me with knowledge & support that has made the team what it is today.

Thank You Guys.

Coach Sam

BBQ Fund

Posted by Mike Conry at Aug 11, 2009 8:37AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

We have exhausted our first round of funding for team barbecues!

Given the overwhelming success of these events, to keep them going, I’m asking that each family please contribute an additional $25.

Please see Chris McCleneghan.

Also, if anyone has folding tables they could bring to Friday’s game, it would be greatly appreciated. Please advise Chris, as well.

Thanks!

Girls Rule, Beat Boys in NBNM Exhibition

Posted by Mike Conry at Aug 11, 2009 8:17AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

North Bellmore, NY – The Rebels were defeated, 9-5, by the 12U girls softball team in a fun-for-all exhibition game at Gunther Field yesterday.

The NBNM 12U softball team are this year’s District Champions.

The girls set the tone early when the boys had trouble adjusting to the wind-mill, fast-pitch deliveries leaving the girls’ hands about 35 feet from home.

Meanwhile, the girls appeared to appreciate the additional six feet of distance when the boys pitched baseballs. The girls’ lineup produced many hard hit balls that gave the boys defense cause to be on their toes all day.

The boys managed a few scattered hits and scratched out some runs here and there but the girls were clearly the more potent offense on this day.

One of the highlights of the game was when Toni V of the 12U girls, on her last at-bat, jumped on a first-pitch, letter-high fastball crushing it to deep left field for a ‘no-doubter’ home run that left the yard in a hurry.

But the biggest highlight of this exhibition contest was the great sportsmanship, camaraderie, and mutual respect that each opponent displayed, and the fun they were obviously having.

All players, coaches, families, and friends partook in a barbecue afterwards sponsored by the Rebels and delivered by Rebels’ parents. Special recognition and thanks go to Chris McCleneghan and Dan McAdam who remain the core of putting together and executing these excellent post-game spreads.

The Rebels next game is an exhibition with the 10U Rebels this Friday, August 14, 5:30pm, at Sawmill North.

Massapequa, NY – The Rebels defeated Massapequa Coast today, 11-7, in an exhibition game at Burns Park. The game included 70-foot bases and big league leading, stealing, pick-off and balk rules — a first for this 9U squad.

The Rebels took the opportunity to get their pitching staff some work with Jack 8, Kevin 5, Nick 2, Alec 14, Mike 13, and Matt 7 all taking the mound. This combination of pitchers and some fine defense kept the game close enough for their productive offense to outscore Massapequa.

The defense was steady and featured a number of great plays by Jack 8 at shortstop.

The offense was fueled by nice hitting throughout the line-up including a bases-loaded bomb by Alec 14 that hopped to the outfield wall 300 feet away and drove in three big runs.

North Bellmore North Merrick extended their advantage over rival Coast to 3-1 and have established themselves as the ‘team to beat’ in future contests.

The Rebels will enjoy a few days off and look forward to their first practice in over a month this Friday, 5:30, at Newbridge.
