Rebels Advance To Oceanside Final

Posted by Mike Conry at Jul 17, 2009 7:39PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Oceanside, NY – The North Bellmore North Merrick Rebels advanced to the Oceanside Tournament championship game by defeating the Oceanside National, 10-0 tonight at Wright’s Field.

Rebels pitching was solid as Alec 14, Kevin 5, and Matt 11 combined for the shut-out. The defense was effective and the offense was steady scoring multiple runs in all but 1 inning.

Billy 20 started the bottom-of-the-fifth with a clutch lead-off single and eventually came around to score the run-rule game-winner.

The Rebels face Oceanside American in the tournament finale this Sunday, 4:00pm at Wright’s Field.

Oceanside, NY – The Rebels beat the Oceanside National at Wright’s Field tonight in a landslide, 26-2.

Rebels’ starter Eric 4 was on. He threw hard with good control and kept Oceanside from establishing any offense to speak of in his three innings of work.

Meanwhile, the Rebels bats were hot. While the Oceanside pitching was clearly not overwhelming, the Rebels strung together many fine at-bats. The offensive explosion of aggressive swings through the line-up produced over two dozen runs in just 3 innings.

The North Bellmore North Merrick/Oceanside National match-up returns tomorrow night, 8:00pm, at Wright’s Field, in a semi-final play-off in the Oceanside Tournament.

Rebels Finish 3-0 in South Shore Pool Play

Posted by Mike Conry at Jul 15, 2009 6:28PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

North Bellmore, NY – The Rebels completed their pool play round of the South Shore tournament tonight defeating the Glen Cove Comanches, 7-2, and finishing a perfect 3-0.

North Bellmore North Merrick stumbled out of the gate a bit tonight falling behind 2-0 and the Comanches held that lead through the third inning. By then, though, Rebels starter Nick 2 had settled things down, the defense behind him made plays, and the momentum was shifting.

The Rebels tied it, 2-2, in the fourth. After Glen Cove went quietly in the top of the fifth, the Rebels plated four in the bottom to go up 6-2.

Jack 8 came on in relief with good command and all of his pitches working. After sitting down the Comanches in order in the bottom of the fifth, the Rebels tacked on another run in their half of the sixth.

Jack worked easily through the heart of the Glen Cove order in the sixth to put the cap on a nice come-from-behind win.

The remaining pool play wraps up this week to determine play-off seeding. The Rebels will enjoy a bye through the first round of play-offs this weekend and prepare for quarter-final play-offs early next week.

The Rebels travel to Oceanside tomorrow night to complete Oceanside Tournament pool play against Oceanside National 8:00pm at Wright’s Field.

Rebels Move Into Lead in NJBL

Posted by Mike Conry at Jul 14, 2009 10:25PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Syosset, NY – The Rebels won a scheduled 9-inning game today over the Syosset Braves that counted as 2 big W’s in the National Junior Baseball League standings. As it played out, the contest was stopped after 6 with the Rebels winning 13-3 for their third run-rule victory in their last four games.

The Rebels bats stayed hot as they ran out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first.

The Braves scattered a few hits and some bases-on-balls and threatened to get things going on a few occasions. But the Rebels got enough pitching from Mike 13, Eric 4, and Matt 7, and enough defense, to keep Syosset from having any big innings.

North Bellmore North Merrick gained and extended their lead with fine offense including 3/4 of a cycle (single, double, triple) from Jack 8 and a scorched triple by Tyler 1. Mike 13, Eric 4, Nick 2 and Alec 14 each contributed multiple hits.

The win means 6 big points in NJBL league play and a 3-point lead over the second-place Mattituck Mets with one game-in-hand and seven regular-season games remaining.

The Rebels continue their busy week tomorrow night back in the South Shore Tournament with a 6:00pm game against Glen Cove at Saw Mill North.
