North Bellmore, NY – With a revision of Civil War history, the NBNM Rebels soundly defeated the Bayside Yankees in a pair of battles on Sunday, 10-0 and 8-1. The wins extend the Rebels’ record in NJBL Spring league play to 7-0.

After both teams failed to score through two innings in game one, the Rebels opened things up in their half of the third when hits by Kevin McCleneghan, Jack Delaney, Alec Acri, Brian Porricelli and Nick Valeriano contributed to a 6-run outburst. After Rebels’ pitcher Nick Valeriano dispatched the Yanks quickly in the top of the fourth, the Rebels threw up another crooked number on singles by Delaney, Matt Conry, Acri, and Michael Proios to extend the lead to 9-0. After the Rebels tacked on another run in the fifth inning, closer Delaney needed just 8 pitches to sit down Bayside in the sixth.

The Rebels took an early lead in game two when, after Conry reached on an error, base hits by Porricelli and Valeriano led to a 1-0 score. NBNM struck twice more in inning two when a single by McCleneghan, a double by Delaney and a base knock from Conry extended the lead to 3-0. The Yankees managed an unearned run in their half of the second when an error, a walk, a wild pitch and a fielder’s choice plated one. The Rebels responded when Porricelli and Valeriano reached with base hits and were driven in with a ground-out by Proios and a squeeze bunt by Billy McAdam for a 5-1 lead. NBNM pitcher Proios performed well and reliever McCleneghan threw three innings of shut-out ball including assistance from his defense with a sharp 6-4-3 double play in the fifth to get out of a jam. Proios delivered a single followed by an error and a double by Eric Solomon in the sixth that led to 3 more Rebels runs while Bayside failed to score in their frame.
