North Bellmore, NY – The Rebels swept another double-header yesterday beating the Ronkonkoma Cardinals 13-1 and 8-3 at Gunther Field.

The Rebels dominated game one in every category. The NBNM defense had a relatively easy time behind outstanding pitching. Starter Brian Porricelli struck out 7 of the 11 batters he faced. While he was touched up for a solo HR in the second inning, that was the only hit the Cardinals could manage. Meanwhile, as the weather heated up, so did the Rebels bats. As they so often do, the Rebels responded immediately to their opponent’s score, plating 4 runs in the bottom of the second. On the way to outhitting Rononkoma 10-1, the Rebels pushed across 4 more in the third and 5 in the fourth for the run-rule victory. Porricelli helped himself in the third inning with a 3-run bomb and Mike Proios preserved the one-hitter in an inning of relief.

Game two was over early when the Rebels jumped out to a 6-0 lead by the middle of the first inning. After Matt Conry reached on an infield hit, and a walk to Alec Acri, Porricelli crushed another 3-run homerun. That was followed by RBI singles from Billy McAdam, Eric Solomon and Matt Nilsen. The defense rolled a pretty 6-4-3 double-play in the bottom half behind starting pitcher Nick Valeriano who blanked the Cards for three innings. Ronkonkoma scratched out a run in each of innings 4, 5 and 6 but, with NBNM tacking on 2 more of its own, it was too little, too late.

It was a day of solid perfomance from the Rebels, particularly with the bats. NBNM managed 23 hits from 9 different players including Matt Conry (5-for-7, double, 1 RBI, 3 R), Porricelli (3-for-3, double, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 4 R), Billy McAdam (3-for-5, 2 RBI, 2 R), Matt Coster (3-for-6, 3 RBI, 1 R), and Jack Delaney (3-for-7, 2 RBI, 1 R).
